When it’s time to decorate for the holidays, Apartment Therapy Executive Home Director Danielle Blundell has a retro-inspired vision — with an intentional color palette — in mind for her spin on seasonal cheer.
“I’m all about vintage vibes for the holidays,” Danielle says. “I base my color palette off the stained glass windows in my 1928 home: teals and greens with hits of gold. This means my holiday decorations match my everyday decor, so the whole look is cohesive and feels like me. It’s also easier to shop and craft for the holidays this way. Sticking to a palette narrows down your options and means that anything you buy from year to year will work together.”

This year, Danielle is lending her aesthetic touch to a classic evergreen wreath, adorning it with green ribbon bows in different shades, textures, and sizes. And with Command™ Brand Hooks, she can put it right where she wants it — even the siding of her enclosed outdoor entry — without making a mess. With innovative damage-free adhesive that can stick to a variety of surfaces, Command™ Brand Products can hold strong throughout the season and remove easily after. Here’s how Danielle made her wreath.

Materials

How to Make a Bow Wreath
- Wrap a piece of wire around the back of the wreath form once to create a loop and tie the ends. This will be how you hang the wreath later.
- Cut your evergreen branches and greenery to your desired lengths and fullness to create multiple bundles. Secure each bundle with floral wire.
- Start attaching the greenery bundles around the wreath with wire.
- Repeat until the entire wreath is covered, making sure to secure any loose ends with more wire.
- Decide where you want to add your premade velvet bows.
- Attach each bow to the wreath with wire.
- Repeat with the rest of the bows.
- Mark the center at the top of your window/front door after you’ve wiped the area with rubbing alcohol. This will be where you place the Command™ Outdoor Large Oil Rubbed Bronze Hook.
- Remove the green liner and attach the adhesive to the back of the hook.
- Remove the black liner and press the hook firmly for 10 seconds onto where you’ve marked on the door. To reinforce, temporarily remove the hook from the wall. Slide the hook up and off the base, and press the base for 30 seconds. Slide the hook back on. Wait 1 hour for the adhesive to build.
- Carefully hang your wreath using the wire loop you created in step 1.
“Command™ Hooks are the true hero of my holiday decor. They’re so easy to use and mean I don’t have to put holes in my walls. When you choose a metallic finish like I did, they’re luxe enough to blend right in with your hardware.”

Danielle’s festive wreath feels elegant and fresh, with the same vintage-inspired charm as the rest of her home. “When I see this DIY project on my way in and out of my house, it instantly puts me in the Christmas spirit,” she says. “It’s also super cute and on-trend. Bows are such a big trend for the holidays, but using a variety of green ribbons gives an unexpected feel and modern twist.”
