Among her friends, Apartment Therapy Style Editor Emma Dangel is known for her enthusiastic approach to holiday decorating. A big fan of ornaments, metallic accents, and all things sparkly, she loves to go all out. And this year, that includes decorating her bedroom!
Emma added a pop of seasonal cheer to her bedroom with a whimsical DIY: a dowel rod hung with ornaments in her favorite muted and metallic hues. How to Make a Dowel with Ornaments
- Arrange your ornaments on a flat surface to decide how you would like to display them.
- Starting with the first ornament, from left to right, thread a string through the ornament loop and secure with a knot.
- Unwind the string from its spool until you’re happy with the length that it’s hanging from the dowel. Cut and tie it to the dowel.
- Repeat until all your ornaments are attached to the dowel.
- Next, take another piece of string and measure and cut how long you would like the dowel to hang.
- Tie both ends of the dowel with the string and make sure it’s secured.
- Wipe the area on the wall with rubbing alcohol and mark where you’d like to hang the dowel.
- Get ready to attach a Command™ Decorative Medium Satin Brass Hook. Remove the red liner and press it onto the back of the hook.
- Remove the black liner and press the hook onto the wall firmly for 10 seconds. To reinforce, temporarily remove the hook from the wall. Slide the hook up and off base, then press the base for 30 seconds. Slide the hook back on. Wait 1 hour for the adhesive to build.
- Carefully hang your dowel with hanging ornaments on the hook.
