Some fruits, like apples, bananas, and berries, are easy to eat. All you have to do is rinse them and enjoy. Even oranges, pears, peaches, and plums are hassle-free. Meanwhile, there are other fruits that require some work before you can enjoy them (think: watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew).
Pineapple is one of those fruits that requires some extra effort. But thanks to an ingenious tip courtesy of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, breaking down a pineapple just got a whole lot easier.
Meghan recently shared a deleted scene from Season 1 of her hit Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, in which she effortlessly cuts into a pineapple in a surprising-yet-brilliant way.
“You know a trick a lot of people do with pineapple, instead of just cutting it?” she asks. “To make the perfect little bite, you follow the wedge.” She demonstrates cutting along the natural ridges of the fruit with expert ease. The end result? A pristine, perfectly sized bite of pineapple. “When nature has given you all the cues on how to have a perfect taste of something,” she says, then immediately pops a little piece into her mouth.
Sure, you could continue to cut your pineapple up into cubes — as we’ve all been doing since forever. And sure, Meghan’s method is a little bit slower. But maybe she’s on to something: eating a pineapple just how nature intended. Plus, you end up eating more of the fruit and wasting less. It’s a win-win situation.
Season 2 of With Love, Meghan, is headed to Netflix this summer. Until then, you can get ready by trying out her easy pineapple-cutting trick. And when you’re all done, don’t forget to save the top! You can plant it and grow a new pineapple right at home. Now, that’s getting the biggest bang for your buck!
