It’s long been said that you can’t enjoy just one potato chip, and anyone who is a fan of salty and crunchy snacks completely understands why. But at a time when so many of us are trying to trim our food budget, loading up on too many snack foods may seem wasteful. Not so much if that addictive snack sums up to be about $1, though.

I’m a big fan of Aldi, because it’s a great place to stock up on household staples and spend less while I’m at it. Clancy’s Original Kettle Chips is a great example of this. Right now, it sells at $1.45 for an 8-ounce bag (thanks to a recent price drop), and social media users can’t get enough of them. These gluten-free chips are crispy and light, and have limitless possibilities. While it’s never wrong to enjoy some chips by the handful out of a bag, these are also great with dips and add a bit of crunch to a sandwich. Crushed, they even make beautifully-textured breading to coat chicken or fish.

Kettle chips are popular because they are made a bit differently from regular chips. While regular chips are generally all cooked at once at a steady temperature until they are done, kettle chips are cooked in smaller batches at varying temperatures. This helps to create what is often a thicker, crunchier, and more sometimes even more flavorful chip.

While Aldi’s Clancy chips come in a bunch of varieties from Cheesy Queso Chips to even a chip inspired by Reuben sandwiches, Reddit shows that the original variety has quite a hefty fan base, and at such a bargain price … who can blame them?
