Talia di Napoli frozen pizza

When I was a kid, there was one food I always hoped we’d make whenever I had a play date with one of my friends: pizza bagels. It was fun to customize our little pies with whatever toppings we wanted. Plus, they didn’t require any special ingredients and were always delicious.

So when I got word that Blackbird, my favorite vegan frozen pizza brand, was releasing mini pizzas just in time for back-to-school season, my inner child was ecstatic. I knew I had to try them for myself — and just as I suspected, they didn’t disappoint.

What You Should Know About Blackbird Blackbirdie Pizza Minis

Blackbird Foods Dairy-Free Cheese Mini Pizzas at Amazon

Make no mistake — Blackbirdie Pizza Minis aren’t just scaled-down versions of larger Blackbird pizzas. Unlike the OGs, the crust is made from a heartier whole-wheat flour (with filtered water, yeast, sea salt, olive oil, and organic brown sugar). There are no fresh garlic slices, either.

The tomato sauce on both the cheese and plant-based pepperoni pizzas contains fresh tomatoes, salt, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and basil. The mozzarella cheese is Blackbird’s own blend, made from filtered water, coconut oil, potato starch, tapioca starch, sunflower oil, sea salt, and chickpea protein, while the pepperoni is part of a collaboration with Beyond Meat.

Blackbirdie Pizza Minis are available exclusively at Whole Foods until early 2026, and are $9.99 for a box of four.

My Honest Review of Blackbird Blackbirdie Pizza Minis

I baked the mini pizzas in the oven at 450 degrees Fahrenheit, as suggested on the packaging. I let them cook for about 11 minutes (a little bit longer than the recommended 8 to 9 minutes), until they were golden-brown around the edges.

Based on looks alone it didn’t seem too different from the classic Blackbird pizzas, aside from its cute, tiny size. But after taking a bite it was clear to me that they were different. While the OG has a doughy, Neapolitan-style crust, the mini pizza crust is a tad more bready with wheat-forward flavor. It almost has a delicious sourdough-like quality.

The ratio of crust to toppings is also much higher. It reminded me of those old-school pizza bagels, but without any effort and with more complexity. The sauce is robust and has a tangy tomato flavor, while the cheese adds a bit of sharpness to round it all out. I’d happily snack on it or have it for a quick lunch again.

Plus, it’s great if you don’t want to heat up a whole pizza. Little me would totally look forward to this after a long school day (just as much as older me enjoys it).
