I like to think of myself as a minimalist — oh wait, that’s what I wish I was. In reality, I have more than I need in many areas of my life. But there’s one thing I don’t feel the least bit bad about owning in excess — blankets. I love the coziness that a throw brings: snuggling up with a hot drink and a good book, curling up for a movie, or sitting around a firepit with friends under something soft and warm.
There are plenty of tried-and-true blanket storage ideas out there. Recently, though, I found a new favorite way to store all my blankets, and it might just be my best one yet: using a lid organizer.

Why a Lid Organizer Is Great for Storing Blankets?
I like to use the IKEA Variera Stainless Steel Lid Organizer, which is technically meant to organize pot lids in your kitchen cabinets by keeping them upright and easy to grab, for blanket storage around my home. It might sound odd, but trust me, it works.
The stainless steel, expandable rack opens accordion-style with seven pegs on either side and has six slots for lids. It’s sturdy, minimalist, and versatile, which makes it perfect for storing thin folded blankets and throws between each slot. You can adjust the width depending on how much you need to store, and its small rubber feet keep it stable on any surface.

For bulkier fleece throws, I fold them and slide them across two lid spaces; thinner throws fit neatly into one. You can display the organizer on the floor to show off your cozy collection, or tuck it away inside a deep drawer if you prefer a cleaner look.

My favorite setup is outside, right by the chairs surrounding my firepit. The lid organizer’s feet keep the blankets off the ground, and it’s so easy to carry the whole thing outside when guests come over. I’ve always hated setting a nice basket of blankets directly on the dirt — this solves that issue instantly.
