Over the last year or so, I’ve committed to cooking more and feeling more confident in the kitchen (cooking is really my husband’s strong suit) — whether it’s experimenting with a new ingredient or trying out an ambitious recipe.
After discovering Ayoh Mayo earlier this year, I was immediately inspired by the unique flavors. Mayonnaise can actually be quite versatile when you’re cooking (or so I’ve learned). When I saw the newest miso flavor drop, I knew it would be the perfect way to elevate some meals this fall.
What’s So Great About Ayoh Foods Miso Mayo?
A typical mayo base contains oil, eggs, and an acid such as lemon juice. Ayoh Mayo uses sunflower oil and apple cider vinegar to give it its distinct taste, while the miso mayo contains white miso, brown sugar, and toasted sesame seeds for an earthy, nutty umami flavor. Despite being marketed as a “sando sauce,” it’s quite versatile. The consistency of the miso mayo is a bit on the thicker side, so it makes for a great dip or an ingredient in your favorite glaze or marinade.
You can find Ayoh Miso Mayo, along with four other unique flavors, at Whole Foods Market locations nationwide. It’s also available at various local specialty food stores, gift and novelty shops, delis, and more, as well as online at Amazon and Ayoh’s website.
What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Ayoh Foods Miso Mayo?
While a miso-flavored mayonnaise might not be your everyday condiment (yet!), it pairs perfectly with several fall-forward ingredients (think: cauliflower, mushrooms, and pork). My favorite way to use Ayoh Miso Mayo is as a dip for sweet potato fries and chicken karaage (or any form of fried chicken), and as a glaze for a miso-maple glazed salmon. I serve the salmon with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts for the ultimate at-home date-night meal.
It’s also a delicious addition to a Swiss burger, tomato toast, homemade salmon poke bowl, or in a marinade for roasted chicken thighs. You can also thin it out with a bit of your favorite oil to create an amazing dressing for an East Asian-style coleslaw.
