If there’s one kitchen appliance that everyone approaches just a little bit differently, it’s the dishwasher. It seems like no two people load the dishwasher quite the same way — and many have strong opinions about the “right way” to do it.
Regardless of your dishwasher loading habits, though, most people can align on one thing: their annoyance on those little pools of water that collect on the tops of coffee mugs at the end of a cycle. Luckily (and finally!), an ingenious trick is making its way around the internet that solves this problem once and for all. People can’t believe they didn’t know about it sooner.
In a recent video, TikTok user Carol Lu shared the simple way to properly load mugs into the dishwasher. “I was today years old when I realized if you load the mugs with the handle down it will angle the mugs so the water won’t pool on the mugs in the dishwasher,” Lu captioned the video.
Wait. What? All this time we’ve all been leaning our mugs in the dishwasher the wrong way, and the excess water on top was totally unnecessary? The better way has been staring us in the face all along.
“It is literally in the manual— the manual that nobody reads,” commented one TikToker. Fair enough, but it’s a great tip nonetheless.
Plenty of other commenters were blown away by having only just discovered this dishwasher loading method. “Never knew that either! Need to try that with tomorrow’s load!” wrote one commenter. “But then how will I know if they have been cleaned? Did I turn on the dishwasher last night? The little pool of water lets me know!” joked another.
Naturally, people will keep loading their dishwashers the way they see fit, but this little trick is definitely worth trying out. Best case scenario: Your mugs will never be wet on top again!
