Ketchup is the universal condiment that seems to go well on almost everything. No burger night is complete without it, and people even love it with scrambled eggs (controversial, I know!). While I always have it on hand, I don’t love the bottle itself. Due to ketchup’s smearable consistency, the stuff can go everywhere when you’re just trying to squeeze a little bit. Then it gets all gunked up in the cap or on the outside of the container. (Gross!)
I’ve only ever opened a ketchup bottle one way: I peel off the little plastic seal affixed to the top of the bottle, toss it out, place the cap back on, and squeeze away. Same? Well, this brilliant hack made me think twice and discover a hidden feature inside the cap that’ll keep your ketchup bottle mess-free.
Have you ever wondered what the little pointy piece on the inside of the top of the cap was for? Well, this brilliant TikTok hack just enlightened me.
Rather than taking off the plastic seal, instead you leave it on. Then, use the pointy bit on the top part of the lid to poke a hole in the seal, close it up, and put the plastic cap back on top. Voilà! Now you can better control the ketchup and only squeeze out just as much as you need and prevent too much coming out at once (a mistake I’ve made one too many times). Plus, the ketchup won’t run everywhere and harden on the outside of the lid.
People in the comments were just as intrigued as I was with one person saying “super smart” and another saying “easy peasy.” What do you think? Will you be trying this hack the next time you purchase a ketchup bottle?
