Founded by entrepreneurs Louise Fritjofsson and Kari Morris, Martie is a digital surplus outlet that feels like a chic off-price indie market. That is, it’s a so-called shoppy shop, but in your pocket, with plenty of great finds under $10. No markups here — Martie, whose logo is a purple planet earth, has a mission of preventing food waste, while also making stocking up on organic and perfectly edible products more affordable.
Sure, you can load up a cart with Campbell’s Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup (new!) or Lucky Charms breakfast cups. There are also plenty of organic and nutrition-focused products, like beans and broths from brands including Annie’s and Primal Kitchen. It’s certainly more fun than perusing the aisles of my local supermarket and my typical online grocer.
Plus, the product inventory is often switching, which is a novelty I very much enjoy. Who knew I needed Thai iced tea concentrate this week? After a quick scroll, you just might want some too.

So, What Is Martie?
Martie is an online grocery store that offers discounted specialty groceries and home and self-care items at up to 70% off. An app and website, Martie stocks surplus goods (that is, products that would be tossed due to packaging changes, seasonality, or overstock) and everything available on the site is shelf-stable.
Currently Martie partners with 4,500 brands, including a few of my favorites: LaCroix, Fishwife, Bonne Maman, Fly by Jing, Goop, Pecana, Good Wheat, Aura Bora, Masienda, Acid League, and many more. The company adds over 150 items weekly, with new drops daily.
How Do You Shop at Martie?
Martie is similar to any other online shopping website and app. You scroll, add to cart, and check out. No membership is necessary, and an order of $50 or more earns you free shipping (plus a $1.99 handling fee). Items low in stock will disappear from your cart. It’s easy to browse through new items, repeat orders, and shop by category like pantry, beverages, skincare, and more.

My Honest Review of Martie
Martie is really fun to shop, thanks to the aesthetically pleasing graphics, easy organization of the app, and generally neat curation that allows me to scroll between products I like and social-media-famous brands I’d love to try. It’s nice to be able to load up my cart with a plethora of items and hit the free shipping minimum rather than stocking up on one brand from its own website. Through the app, I’ve discovered a few new staple products, like Pecana’s pecan milk and Acid League’s Vegan Caesar, that I never would have tried before.
As someone weary of purchasing from big-box brands, I love that Martie is a more indie spot to stock up on some pantry essentials, plus cosmetics I regularly use up in my house (conditioner, bars of soap). I love trying new products and seasonal flavors and scents, which Martie is perfect for. The shop also feels special enough that a gift card would be a nice gift for someone, and much less generic than sending a gift card for takeout or a standard grocery store.
My biggest critique is the imperfect shipping process. One order left my Raincoast Crisps completely crushed (and because I’m thrifty and environmental, I still used them), while another sent me with shards of tortilla chips and a leaky jar of artichokes that I had to toss for food safety concerns. For these reasons, chips and crackers are currently a no-go for me when ordering from Martie.
When I buy groceries, I typically repurchase my weekly staples and seasonal produce. Martie has been a fun way to try new salad dressings, seltzer flavors, specialty broths, and more. I also love saving money, so knowing I’m getting a deal while potentially helping the planet is another bonus.
