The unmissable and remarkable rise of Dubai chocolate has officially hit Costco. It all began in 2021 after Dubai-based FIX Dessert Chocolatier launched its now-iconic Can’t Get Knafeh of It Chocolate Bar. The milk chocolate bar, filled with pistachio cream and toasted kataifi, quickly took off on TikTok, where it was dubbed the “Dubai Chocolate Bar” by fans (I reviewed it last summer).

Since then, it has sparked a wave of Dubai-inspired chocolate bars and desserts across the globe, and once again in the aisles of the beloved warehouse. A few days ago, Costco shoppers spotted a Dubai-Style Chocolate Cake in stores — and the reactions have been nothing short of ecstatic. Described as “pure indulgence,” the cake is quickly growing a fanbase of its own.

Naturally, I had to try it for myself. Here’s my full review.

My Honest Review of We Take the Cake Dubai-Style Cake

Because this cake is topped with a chocolate ganache, it’s best served chilled. I brought it into the office to share with my coworkers (and get their opinions). The 30-minute commute caused it to melt slightly, but a few minutes in the freezer fixed that quickly.

I had high expectations going in. Almost every version of a Dubai chocolate bar I’ve tried, I’ve loved — there’s just something unbeatable about the chocolate and pistachio combo.

When I cut the first slice, I was immediately impressed. The cake is visually stunning: clean, even layers, and the deep brown of the chocolate cake contrasts beautifully with the pale green pistachio cream, all topped with a glossy ganache.

As for the taste? Just perfect. The chocolate-to-pistachio ratio is spot-on. It’s rich thanks to the cake and cream layers, but it doesn’t feel heavy (I could easily and happily eat a whole slice).

Tom, our senior studio producer, summed it up best: “It’s like a Dubai chocolate bar in cake form.” Alex, our editorial assistant, raved about the “dense, brownie-like chocolate base with incredibly rich chocolate notes.” Mara, our director of shopping and groceries, added, “Oh! I like this. It’s not as crunchy as a typical Dubai chocolate bar, but it’s silky. I’d be so excited if someone brought this to a party for dessert.”
