I thought ahead about so many features when we redid the kitchen in our home, thanks in part to my chef friend. I knew I wanted our trash can in a pull-out cabinet and that I wanted a hot water dispenser. I also knew that I wanted to hide all the gadgets we’d be charging, so I planned to add a drawer dedicated to charging electronics to the kitchen.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work out quite as planned. For one thing, I needed the drawer space. I didn’t realize we wouldn’t have enough drawer space to be able to use a whole drawer to charge devices. The drawer is currently where we keep our silverware, and there isn’t enough room to charge anything bigger than our smart watches or our rechargeable lighters in the same drawer.

Secondly, I use my phone so much while I’m in the kitchen that I need to actually have it out. I use it for listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks, and to look up recipes. Having the phone charging in the drawer makes it impossible to use the phone at the same time, and I frequently need to charge my phone by dinnertime. So I end up plugging in a charger in one of the sockets above the counter and using my phone as it charges.

This is generally fine, except for one thing: I cannot stand the cord clutter out in the open! I mean, I had a whole drawer built to hide the cord clutter. Of course, I could put the charger away when I’m not using it and tuck it neatly into a drawer so I don’t have to look at it, but guess how often that happens? Yeah, pretty much never.

What Finally Worked to Hide My Kitchen Cord Clutter

When I came across this retractable charger for under $27 on Amazon, I knew it was the perfect solution. It not only has two retractable cords (one is a lightning cable and the other is a USB-C cable), but two extra ports as well so you can charge even more devices if you need to — all while using only one wall socket! Gently pull either of the cords about an inch to unfurl it up to 35.5 inches, and tug it again to retract it completely inside.

It’s a superfast charger, too, which can take your phone from 0% battery to 40% in about 20 minutes. It also has a light indicator on it to eliminate the guesswork about whether your device is charging or not.

I’ve had the cord for about a month, and I love it so much! I’ve been on a mission lately to minimize cord clutter, and this new charger is my latest find that brings calm to my often chaotic kitchen. The retractable charger keeps my kitchen looking nice and neat because there aren’t cords splayed out on the counter, and there’s always a charger handy when and where I need one. It also allows me to charge my phone while I’m cooking. It’s a total winner all around and worth every penny!
