What’s So Great About Season’s Choice Steamed Edamame?
Edamame are young, green soybeans that have a firm, buttery texture. Edamame is a filling snack and a hearty addition to meals because it’s a complete protein (it provides all nine essential amino acids). They are mostly grown overseas, so it’s rare to find fresh pods at the grocery store or farmers market. Purchasing frozen edamame is often the only way to add this vegetable to your plate.
Aldi sells two varieties of Season’s Choice Steamed Edamame: shelled and in-pod. Both styles are worth a spot in your quarter-fueled cart. Just as you might buy both shelled and in-shell pistachios, deciding which bag of edamame to buy depends on how you plan on serving them.
The best part about buying frozen edamame at Aldi is the price. A 16-ounce bag costs just $2.49 (or $0.16 per ounce). At my other grocery store in the Tampa, Florida area, frozen edamame costs $4.19 for a smaller, 14-ounce bag (about $0.30 per ounce). At that price, I add both Aldi bags to my cart — and you should too.
What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Season’s Choice Steamed Edamame?
The simplest way to serve frozen in-pod edamame is to steam them in the microwave or on the stove until thawed and hot. Sprinkle the edamame with coarse salt or chile garlic seasoning. That’s just the beginning, though — there are so many other ways to spice up edamame.
Purée shelled edamame into a creamy dip by following this recipe for hummus. Edamame also add color, texture, and protein to noodle bowls and rice dishes. This recipe for pesto pasta is perfect for summer, thanks to bright and citrusy lemon, tender spinach, toasted almonds, and, of course, edamame.
Crispy gnocchi is a delicious dinner, and when it’s combined with asparagus, edamame, and Parmesan it comes together in just 10 minutes. Edamame and tofu give this salad enough protein to keep you full, and the peanut butter dressing is nutty and savory.
