The Instagram account @traderjoesnew was among the first to share the news of the popular chip’s highly-anticipated return, “Carolina gold chips are back!!!! These are some of my favorite chips!!” said the caption.
Carolina Gold Barbecue Sauce is totally different from everyday barbecue sauce. It’s made from a tangy mustard base, and it’s known for its bold, bright yellow color. It’s got a hint of sweetness, usually from honey and brown sugar, and a little bit of acidity from vinegar. Carolina Gold hails from South Carolina, where it would be almost blasphemous to serve barbecue any other way.
The Kitchn’s Senior Editor of News & Features, Paulina Jayne Isaac, gave the fan-favorite flavor a try, and immediately saw why people couldn’t wait for them to return for the summer season. “These chips are incredibly delicious. The strong mustard flavor really makes them taste perfect for snacking or with a sandwich,” she said.
