This year, there’s one frozen item people literally can’t get enough of: the Deutsche Küche Apple Frangipane Tart. There’s even an entire Reddit thread dedicated to the dessert titled “Warning!!! Do not buy!!!”
Why? Because it’s that dang good. Another person commented, “I’m seriously considering a garage freezer to keep more.” With those rave reviews, we had to try it out for ourselves to see what all the hype was about.

What You Should Know About Aldi Deutsche Küche Apple Frangipane Tart
Aldi’s Deutsche Küche Apple Frangipane Tart is imported directly from Germany and contains an apple filling and a marzipan cake. (Marzipan is an almond paste that’s sweeter and denser than frangipane, which is often used in French pastries, like these almond croissant cookie bars.) It’s topped with apple slices and roasted almonds, all tucked into a buttery shortcrust pastry.
You can find the Apple Frangipane Tart — and a cherry version — in the freezer section of Aldi where it’s currently on sale for $2.99, which means they won’t be around much longer (at least in the location we visited). When you’re ready to dig in, simply preheat the oven to 350°F, remove the packaging, and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Our Honest Review of Aldi Deutsche Küche Apple Frangipane Tart
Patty, our food editor and resident Aldi superfan, rushed to her local store to snag one of the beloved tarts. “I love all things apple,” she said, including the grocer’s Dutch apple pie. “Yet in all of the years I’ve shopped at Aldi, I’ve never tried the apple frangipane tart.” But after one bite, it swiftly became the “fall dessert I didn’t know I needed.”
She raved over its “crisp and buttery” shortbread pastry crust that Prue Leith of the Great British Bake Off would surely approve of. (No soggy bottoms here!) The marzipan and apple filling had “a fruity, slightly nutty, and not too sweet flavor” that made her go back for another bite. “I can’t wait to share at my next fall gathering.”
