What You Should Know About Crate & Barrel’s French Kitchen Marble Covered Butter Dish

French Kitchen Marble Covered Butter Dish at Crate & Barrel

This butter dish has, as the name implies, a marble base, along with a glass cloche. As per Crate & Barrel’s instructions, I packed a standard eight-ounce stick of softened butter in the base. I probably could’ve put another tablespoon or two in it if I wanted to fill it entirely, but the full stick fit comfortably.

The base is compact (about the size of a chocolate chip cookie) and hand-wash only, though the glass lid is dishwasher-safe. That said, I’ve found hand-washing the base to be super easy and low effort. It doesn’t take me more than a few minutes.

My Honest Review of Crate & Barrel’s French Kitchen Marble Covered Butter Dish

What initially drew me to this butter dish is its beautiful design. It has a butter bell look to it, though it doesn’t function as one — something I happen to like as someone who only uses butter bells occasionally. I stuck it in the fridge when I was finished filling it instead of leaving it out on the counter the way I do with a butter bell.

When I want softened butter, I’ll take the dish out of the fridge about an hour ahead of time. Otherwise, I’ll just grab it from the fridge as I need it. I love being able to scrape off the butter instead of cutting it, like with a standard butter dish. It makes it easier for me to achieve a nice, thin layer of butter on my morning toast.

I do find that the lid sits a little loosely over the base, so it slides around some, but I’m honestly not bothered by that. The lid is considerably lighter than ones that came with my standard butter dishes, making it easy to remove, which I appreciate.

I truly can’t get enough of this gorgeous butter dish, and I can’t wait to show off it to my friends and family at our next summer get-together! It’s sure to rack up the compliments.
