According to the 2025 Remodeling Impact Report from the National Association of Realtors, 30% of Realtors recommend homeowners complete a kitchen upgrade before selling with 48% of Realtors seeing an increased demand for an upgraded kitchen. But before upgrading or remodeling a kitchen, it’s important to look at what buyers are favoring at the moment.
Why Integrated Range Hoods Might Replace Statement Range Hoods
While a statement range hood can put your stamp on a kitchen, an integrated range hood creates a streamlined and minimal look that works well in traditional and modern kitchens alike — which is exactly what today’s homebuyers are looking for. Jenna Stauffer, broker and global real estate adviser at Sotheby’s International Realty, has noticed that homebuyers are gravitating toward functionality and low-maintenance designs, with minimalism “taking center stage.”
Irene Navarro, partner and interior designer at Stearns Navarro Interiors, says she and her partner Kristine Stearns have incorporated a few integrated hoods into remodels. “This is a trend that we have seen firsthand for years in our travels through Europe and Asia,” she says, noting that it’s finally gaining momentum here in the United States.
Integrated range hoods are concealed in the upper cabinets to create a seamless look and offer “fluidity that allows other elements in the kitchen to shine, like dramatic veining of natural stone countertops and full-height backsplashes — the result is a more serene and calm aesthetic,” Navarro says.
Integrated Range Hoods Increase Functionality and Storage
Brandi Berg, a real estate agent with Love on Your Home Real Estate in Whitehall, Wisconsin, is currently renovating her Victorian home with plans to “preserve some feelings of traditional” while capturing a modern aesthetic.
Berg initially explored adding an elegant custom range hood, but it “never felt quite right.” She ultimately decided on an integrated range hood — and is so glad she did. Because the integrated range hood is concealed within a deep upper cabinet, Berg was able to store large pottery bowls that wouldn’t have otherwise had a home. “I didn’t discover this until kitchen ‘move in’ day,” she says. “I was so thankful at that moment that we went that route!”

Will Statement Range Hoods Disappear?
Stauffer is seeing a shift toward “invisible kitchens,” especially in high-end homes. These kitchens focus on “clean sight lines where nothing feels too heavy or jumps out and everything blends seamlessly into the surrounding spaces.” But disappearing range hoods are still a blip on the designer and home stager radar.
While tides may be shifting, it’s not so uniform as to say that this kitchen feature is on its way out totally. Navarro says that statement range hoods are still popular with many of their clients because “they serve as a focal point that anchors the entire kitchen design.” They aren’t so much being replaced, as they are evolving in their design and execution.
She’s noticed a transition from “large, ornate, detailed showpieces to a sleeker, more refined, clean aesthetic.” Whether the design favors the boldness of a statement range hood, the simplicity of a fully integrated range hood, the softness of an all-plaster form, the warmth of a natural wood accent, or even a stove cove, Navarro sees range hoods trending towards a simplistic and understated look that is more curated to coordinate with other elements in the kitchen.
“The ultimate goal is harmony,” she adds. “There’s no need to overpower the space with one standout element, but rather balance various elements throughout the space, keeping personal style, function, and flow in mind.”
