The sandwich, as it turned out, was even better than I could have ever hoped for. I shouldn’t have been all that surprised, though. Technological advancements have helped make frozen dinners better than ever. These days, I don’t go to McDonald’s as much anymore, and I really don’t have to now because this chicken sandwich is absolutely delicious (it’s cheaper and faster, too).

What’s So Great About Mason Dixie Foods Crispy Chicken Sandwich?
Mason Dixie Foods started as a majorly popular biscuit restaurant outside of Washington, D.C., before it closed down due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Co-owner Ayeshah Abuelhiga and co-owner and chef Jason Gehring made the decision to completely move operations online. Four years later, the brand’s frozen biscuits and sandwiches are in 6,000 stores across the country including Target, Costco, Publix, Kroger, and Whole Foods (I’ve seen this particular one at my local Whole Food’s in Brooklyn).
Like Mason Dixie’s other offerings, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich is preservative and chemical-free. This particular sandwich features a marinated and fried chicken breast (using the same recipe from the original restaurant) and a potato bun. It’s simple but incredibly effective.
The breading contains breadcrumbs and yellow corn. It’s thick, slightly salted, and doesn’t overwhelm the rest of the chicken sandwich. The chicken patty is also thick and juicy. Oh! And the potato bun. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a frozen bun that’s so lightly and fluffy. 10/10.
The $4.49 chicken sandwich comes individually packed. It’s close to a dollar cheaper than a McDonald’s McCrispy Chicken Sandwich and is made with way simpler ingredients. (PSA: Trader Joe’s also makes a spot on dupe of the McD’s hash browns.)

What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Mason Dixie Foods Crispy Chicken Sandwich?
The coolest thing about this chicken sandwich is how you warm it up. The brand suggests heating the chicken patty and bread separately to preserve the crunch on the breaded chicken and the softness of the bread. It’s quite easy and takes less than three minutes in the microwave. I top it with a dollop of mayonnaise and ketchup, and it tastes just like I got it from a restaurant.
