I’m all about repurposing things, giving them a second life, and saving a dollar wherever I can. Rather than going out and buying an item, I’ll often check online first to see if there’s a simple solution that doesn’t require me making a trip to the store. Thankfully, there are plenty of DIY hacks on the internet that you can find to fix nearly any issue in your home. While some of them just downright don’t work, others are brilliant, like this toilet paper holder-turned vase trick.
So when I stumbled upon this idea from TikTok creator @julias_life_hacks for a DIY paper towel holder, I was intrigued. I thought it was silly at first, but equally as effective! Plus, it makes use of an item everyone already has lying in their closet. If you’ve been on the hunt for a paper towel storage solution, look no further.
The secret item? A plastic hanger. Maybe you’ve got one too many hangers lying around or just did a deep closet clear out and have got plenty to spare. This hack takes that mundane item and turns it into an ingenious DIY paper towel holder.
All you need to do is take a plastic hanger and break off a section in the center bottom part. Then, take your paper towel roll and weave it through the bottom piece of the hanger, positioning the broken ends of the hanger on either side of the roll. Next, take a command hook (we love them for organizing the kitchen) and affix it to whatever surface you want to hang your paper towel roll from. It could be the back of the pantry door, under the cabinet, or even on the side of the cabinet. Finally, hang the hanger with the paper towel roll onto the command hook, and voilà!
The best part about this hack is that you already have everything you need at home and it doesn’t require any special tools. (Seriously, don’t ask me to use a drill.) Plus, you save like $40 by not buying a brand-new paper towel holder.
This hack works great in the kitchen but could easily be used in other areas of the house. Place one in a shed, garage, or even your office. Try it and thank us (and the internet) later.
