Dark chocolate-covered anything is easily one of my favorite snacks. (Case in point: these frozen banana bites.) Yes, it’s easy to melt chocolate at home, dip your favorite foods in it, and stick them in the freezer to set, which I have done. Sometimes the convenience of a ready-made bite is too appealing to pass up. Tru Fru fits that bill.
Admittedly, I’d seen the hype around Tru Fru’s chocolate-covered desserts for years, but hadn’t tried any myself until recently. Earlier this summer, I got word that the brand was launching a new line of freeze-dried desserts with even more fruit and knew this was my chance. Here’s how it went down. (Let’s just say I’ll be buying more.)

What You Should Know About Tru Fru Dark + White Chocolate Freeze-Dried Raspberries
Tru Fru’s chocolate-covered fruit are well-loved, but because they are frozen, they aren’t really a portable snack to enjoy on the go — until now. The new hyper-dried line is made with whole pieces of fresh fruit that’s freeze-dried at peak ripeness, then dipped in chocolate. Unlike the frozen ones, these are shelf-stable, meaning you can take them with you practically anywhere.
The new line comes in four different flavors: Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Dark Chocolate Strawberry, Strawberries + Creme, and Raspberries + Creme. My personal favorite, Dark Chocolate Raspberry, contains fresh raspberries that are freeze-dried whole, and coated in a layer of white chocolate, then dark chocolate, and finally finished with a confectioners glaze. The bites launched in August in 3.4-ounce bags for $6.99, and are available in stores nationwide, including Publix, Albertsons, Krogers, and Walmart.

My Honest Review of Tru Fru Dark + White Chocolate Freeze-Dried Raspberries
As soon as I opened the bag and caught a whiff of the sweet, fruity raspberries, I knew I was in for a treat. I popped one into my mouth and got a solid, audible snap and crunch, then a BURST of flavor. The freeze-dried raspberry has a similar texture to pieces of fruit you’d find in cereal or granola, and there’s just enough rich, dark chocolate to balance out its sweet, yet tart flavor notes.
The only thing I couldn’t really taste was the white chocolate. Honestly, I wouldn’t know it was there if I didn’t see it visually myself. Still, I would totally bring these to a movie, or stash them in my bag for a road trip or flight.

Mara, our director of groceries & shopping, did pick up on the white chocolate saying, “I love the contrast of the deep dark chocolate with a pop of sweetness from the white chocolate interior, combined with the sweet-tart raspberries. I get why someone might need to hide the bag from their friends (or themselves).” I fully agree and will be grabbing a few more on my next grocery run.
