When Sha’Carri Richardson isn’t busy making history on the track (she’s now considered the fastest woman in the world), you can find the Olympian spending time at home in her most-loved room. “My kitchen is probably my favorite place in the house,” Richardson tells The Kitchn. “I have a very beautiful island that I had built. The countertops are Taj Mahal, and it gets the most compliments. I really enjoy being in the kitchen.”
And the love runs deep. Richardson first fell in love with all things food as a little girl growing up in Dallas. “Being from Texas and having a Southern Black woman in the kitchen, food was definitely a way for us to connect,” she says. “I grew up in the kitchen.” (And if you’re curious, her favorite Southern cuisines are soul food, tacos, and her “big mama’s home-cooked meals.”)
She also had a favorite childhood snack, Turtles bars, so it’s a full-circle moment that she now has a partnership with the brand for the “It’s Slow Good” campaign. “I had Turtles in my house growing up,” she recalls. “So this partnership ties back into my relationship with food. It’s all about making you feel good.”
Ahead, Sha’Carri Richardson shares even more of her go-to kitchen items in our latest installment of Á La Cart. Find out her favorite teas to drink, how she seasons her grilled wings, and the brilliant way she stores her red wine.
