When Regina Hall isn’t working on her latest project (check her out on the big screen in One Battle After Another this September with costar Leonardo DiCaprio), the award-winning actress can be found chilling with some good food. And when the weather’s nice out, you can find her enjoying the sunshine and kicking back at a cookout.
Her signature dish? “I’m the one that brings the paper towels, plates, and water,” she says. But that doesn’t mean she can’t throw down in the kitchen.
“I do a nice chopped green salad. My sister says I make a good potato salad. I can boil some corn, throw a little butter on it. That’s where I fit,” Hall tells the Kitchn. She also appreciates the simplicity of cookout foods, which means getting more time to spend with loved ones. “It’s mostly grilling outside. So I think that’s what makes it fun. You’re not in the kitchen for days and days preparing.”
For this latest installment of Á La Cart, Regina Hall shares the delicious snack she loves, the drink she always has stashed in her fridge, and the signature scent her kitchen is incomplete without.
“I have a juicer. I’m into fresh juices more than a can of anything. I always have fresh juice, which I’ll get from fresh canteloupe, fresh watermelon, and fresh apples.”
“I have a lot of seasonings, [but] if you want to go hard, you get Lawry’s.”
“I’m a snacker. My favorite is chips. If it crunches, I like it. I like jalapeño [chips], but any kind of chip makes me happy.”
“I like a good porcelain knife for vegetables because it slices the smoothest. They’re good for lemons and limes, too.”
“My mom used Bounty… and always said it was the best paper towel. I don’t know that I realized it then, but I do realize it now as an adult, and as kids, I’m sure we spilled many a thing. It’s extra absorbent. I clean with it, I dry things with it, and I don’t like sheets that fall apart.”
“I love any kind of soy candle. I love anything citrusy, so I love a lemon scent in the kitchen. I do like a vanilla. I’m not mad at something musky like a sandalwood. But citrusy is always going to be my fresher smell, especially [in the] summer. I love a fresh, citrus smell.”
