I’d been meaning to upgrade my butter dish for a minute, but this past Christmas, my grandma beat me to it. My old plastic one was more about function than form, and even so, the attached lid broke off a while ago. It was far from ideal, sometimes even falling off when I pulled the dish out of the fridge, but I put up with it for way too long. That’s why I was so elated a few months ago to receiveChantal’s mini butter dish. (My grandma must’ve noticed I needed a new one when she visited a few months ago.)

It’s everything I knew (and didn’t know) I needed. I knew I wanted a nicer, sleeker-looking dish that I wouldn’t mind sitting out on my counter. I didn’t know that a mini size was even an option, but in retrospect, I should’ve thought of it! It’s perfect for my tiny kitchen and jam-packed fridge, taking up minimal space. Plus, when I looked it up online, I discovered it’s only $20 on Amazon!

What Is the Chantal Mini Butter Dish?

Texas-based brand Chantal — you might recognize its tea kettles — is behind this mini butter dish. It has a simple design that holds half a stick of butter (or 4 tablespoons), and it pairs well with any serveware you use on your dinner table since it’ll never go out of style. The dish also comes in four colors: Mine is the neutral gray, but there’s also cobalt blue, red, and white. The ceramic stoneware, which is lead and cadmium-free, is coated in a nonporous glaze. The base is hand-sanded, too, so that it won’t scratch any surfaces. Better yet, you can toss it in the dishwasher, oven, microwave, and freezer!

Why I Love the Chantal Mini Butter Dish

There are so many reasons to love this tiny butter dish. For one, it’s really as cute as it looks in the photos, and even though it takes up barely any space on my countertop, it catches my eye every time I enter my kitchen. Even more importantly, it performs extremely well. It doesn’t slide around the counter when I need to grab a bit of butter with a knife, and the slight indent on the base keeps the butter from moving around inside. It’s also easy to grab the lid and open it. Moreover, I accidentally dropped the dish on my tile floor, and it didn’t shatter! It still looks as good as new.

Of course, the real game-changing feature is its size. I need all of the counter space that I can get since my kitchen is so cramped, so when I’m cooking, it’s convenient that this little dish keeps it more clutter-free. Another way I can see myself using it? I could keep this mini dish on my counter for constant access to room temperature butter, and another full-size dish in the fridge. I wish I had room for a dinner table, too, because it would be so useful to place a few of these around instead of having to constantly pass around one regular butter dish. (In fact, there’s a four-piece set on Amazon!)

Though I didn’t know about mini butter dishes before, now that I’ve seen the difference that it’s made in my kitchen, I consider it an essential. Whether you use it mostly for dinner parties, as a supplement to your regular-size dish, or as your sole storage solution for butter, it’s definitely worth its $25 price tag.
